Faro, while capital of one of the main Portuguese touristic regions, has exceptional conditions to meet the new challenges faced by the tourism industry.
Notwithstanding the council’s low touristic capacity, the existent units have a relatively high occupation rate that reveals a potential growth for new hospitality units, particularly those rated as 4 and 5 stars, being the last category presently inexistent.
Regarding the type of units, and even though Faro has recently witnessed a diversification in the type of accommodation offered, the council still lacks various types of units such as boutique hotels, resorts, serviced tourist accommodation amongst others.
The Municipality considers the tourism sector strategic for the council’s development hence provides information on buildings and locations that display touristic potential.
